What is Scoliosis?

 

Scoliosis is a condition that many people have heard about but most aren’t quite sure what it is. Scoliosis is a condition in which there is a sideways curvature of the spine A spine should be straight when looking at it from the back and someone with scoliosis will have a spine that deviates to one side  making it look more like an S-curve.scoliosis2

 

What causes Scoliosis?

 

There are different types of scoliosis; there is congenital scoliosis caused by vertebral anomalies present at birth, idiopathic scoliosis in which the cause is unknown and secondary scoliosis in which scoliosis occurs due to another primary condition.

 

Recent studies show that the most common type of scoliosis is late onset idiopathic scoliosis.

 

How is Scoliosis diagnosed?

 

Scoliosis is defined as a spinal curvature of more than 10 degrees to either the left of right.
